How to Make a Glitter Texture in Photoshop
1. Start off by creating a New Canvas
Set your dimensions based on how big you’d like your image to be and the resolution based on whether it’s for web or print.
When creating my document I chose 1500 px by 1500 px and set my resolution as 300 px.
2. Choose a color to make glittery
Next, simply select a color to make glittery. Below are some examples of colors I’ve often used:
- Gold -> # 9b930c
- Pink-> # ad439d
- Green -> # 6ab254
- Purple -> # 843aa3
3. Fill Your Image with your chosen color
This can be done by simply selecting the paint bucket tool and clicking on your canvas.
4. Add a ‘Grain’ Texture to Your Layer
Now that you’ve selected a color for your canvas, it’s time to add some texture to it. This can be done by performing the following steps:
Filter -> Filter Gallery -> Texture -> Grain
In the panel displayed on the right side, make sure that the settings are as follows.
- Intensity -> 40
- Contrast -> 50
- Grain Type -> Sprinkles
After you’ve selected your grain settings, simply click the ‘OK’ button.
5. Duplicate the Layer and ‘Crystallize’
Once done duplicate the layer by keeping the layer selected and clicking on:
Ctrl + J for windows or Apple + J
When the duplicate layer appears, it’s now time to add a ‘Crystallize’ Filter. This can be done by selecting the ‘Crystallize’ filter from the menu. Simply click on:
Filter -> Pixelate -> Crystallize
Once you’ve selected the ‘Crystallize’, a window will appear. This will show you what your image will look like.
In order to perform the next step, you must just alter the ‘Cell Size’ to 5.
Next Select the blending option ‘Multiply’from the drop down menu in your layers panel.
6. Copy the last layer twice and rotate.
Once you’re done, go ahead and duplicate the layer twice. Then rotate the first layer you’ve copied by 90 degrees and the second copied layer by 180 degrees.
7. Merge all the Layers together
The last step is to merge all your layers together. This can be done by right clicking on the layers panel and selecting ‘Merge Visible‘.
